La Citadelle

This is the view of the old barn, which you see in the distance as you emerge from the woods. Until 1970 this held the living quarters of the farm, the carriage hall, and the cow-shed, milking parlour and dairy. Now it is just used for storage. The size and configuration of the timbers suggest that this was built in the 11th century, and has undergone maintenance and modernisation ever since. It is timber framed with stone rubble infill walls more than a metre thick, and with internal walls still in the original wattle and daub.
